Last fall the Chippewa County Veterans Service Office began work on a plan to let veterans and their families know about the many different ways the Veterans Administration works for them.
The plan is finalized and a veterans information meeting is scheduled for next Thursday night beginning at 7 p.m. at the Montevideo Training and Community Center.
"It’s not only for veterans and their family members, but it’s also for the family members of deployed soldiers from this area," said county VSO Dennis Anderson. "That’s very, very important. A spouse may see something they’re not aware of."
Invitations have been sent to state and federal legislative representatives, along with representatives from the VA regional office in St. Paul, the VA hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota Veterans Affairs, Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, veterans groups, and family assistance groups to talk about services their organizations offer.
After the presentations, presenters will be able to meet one-on-one with individuals to answer questions and provide informational handouts.
"It’s a night that we try to make veterans aware of the benefits they are eligible for," said Anderson. "That’s why we try to bring all these entities together."
