Even though Alzheimer's Disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, memory issues remain a topic that is “taboo” in many communities. Sadly, there is no cure for Alzheimer's Disease and the number of people who will be diagnosed is expected to triple by the year 2050. This means that many of us will face this disease ourselves, as a loved one or care provider.
MAMLN, the Montevideo Area Memory Loss Network, is striving to make Montevideo a dementia friendly community through educational opportunities, but also by simply TALKING about ALZHEIMER'S! It's our goal to bring awareness of and to support those affected by the disease.
We have been challenged to unite together for a cause that affects our community but is rarely talked about. For this reason, the Montevideo Area Memory Loss Network has chosen Monday, September 18th as our 2nd Annual Paint the Town Purple Day! Now we’re not suggesting you actually paint the town purple…but here are a few ideas to show your support:
v Wear purple to school!
v Encourage your employees to wear purple!
v Decorate with purple balloons!
v Offer a purple dot discount!
v Tie purple ribbons around trees and lamp posts!
v Host a contest at work for best purple outfit!
v Decorate with purple chalk or poster board!
v Serve purple food!
The list of possibilities is endless!
Please consider participating in this one-day event! We encourage you to tag the Montevideo Area Chamber of Commerce (@montechamber) or email your photos to the Chamber at generalinfo@montechamber.com
The Montevideo Area Memory Loss Network will choose their favorite pictures and award prizes!
Help us support those affected by memory loss, and inform the community of the educational events and special campaigns that help provide resources to this area.
Thank you for helping us take a step forward in making our community dementia friendly!
Sincerely,
The Montevideo Area Memory Loss Network,
Lori Petersen, Chairperson #320-321-8268
