The expression "dog days" refers to the hot, sultry days of summer. The Old Farmer's Almanac lists the traditional period of the Dog Days as the 40 days beginning July 3 and ending August 11, coinciding with the rising of the Dog Star, Sirius.
In Montevideo, we intend to use this event as a time to have fun with and enjoy our friendship with dogs and each other.
All events take place in Smith Park: Notice-pictures will be taken by the City of Montevideo.
All dogs must be under the control of their owners (leashes).
5:00 PM to 7:00 PM: Vendors, Exhibits, Dog Adoption Opportunities, Food
5:45 PM: Dog Parade
To encourage owners to license their dogs, the Montevideo Police Department will be on hand to issue coupons for free licenses. Owners who do not have up to date vaccinations will need to provide proof of vaccination before a license will be issued, but they are still eligible to take a coupon for later use. The City of Montevideo is willing to offer these coupons to non-residents of Montevideo in an effort to encourage vaccinations and to help with returning lost dogs to their owners.
