Members of the First Iowa Division of the North American Railcar Operators Association will operate a varied collection of vintage railroad maintenance cars – often call putt putts because of the distinctive sound they make - from Olivia to Montevideo and back on Sunday, Sept. 16. The excursion is made possible in collaboration with the Twin Cities & Western Railroad over whose tracks the railcars will run. Approximately two dozen vintage speeders will depart Olivia around 11 a.m. and arrive at the depot in Montevideo around noon or soon after. These rail cars (including some authentic Milwaukee Road cars) will be in town for approximately an hour and a half to two hours and available for inspection by members of the public. Operators will turn their cars on the 1st Street crossing and park their units on the track in front of the depot. After members have a chance to tour the Milwaukee Road Heritage Center Museum and Depot, the group will return to Olivia.
